A CSS Editor

There are probably quite a few css editors on the market, but the only one I have found that I use all the time is Top Style Pro css editor and validator from Bradsoft.com.

This is an excellent tool that integrates, seamlessly, with my html editor. If I want to write a css file for a site, this is where I do it and then run it through the validator. This way I can narrow down any cross browser exceptions to an absolute minimum from the start.

As with this site, I find it handy to write a base css file, validate it and save it as the core style. If I want to modify the style for different sections of the site, all I have to do is make the necessary changes to the base file and save it under a new name (like style1.css - novel I'm not!).

Provided the changes aren't too fundamental, I know that the file will pass validation so the time saved in making pages appear different is minimal.

Whilst this is a commercial tool, it justifies its cost in terms of time saved, range of functions and ease of use. There is a large and comprehensive help section, ongoing support and, for me, a feeling of trust in the tool.

If you have the money and intend using cascading style sheets, you should seriously consider purchasing the Pro version of Top Style.
